Random venting/ranting or something. I don’t feel exactly depressed or angsty or anything like that mind you

I know I need a change in my life. I KNOW I’m not going to be where I am right now too much longer. I just want to wake up tomorrow and either magically end up in the job and place I should be at next, potentially with a special someone of my choosing, OR wake up tomorrow and find out what that direction is and start packing for it without worrying and be there by the end of the month. Or after MFM, lol.

I still have debts to worry about, I need either more work or a better paying job (probably better paying job considering the amount they pay is squat for my line of work really). But I have various places and folks I want to be with. And I don’t know who to be with. It’s not that I have a problem finding somebody to date, it’s more me trying to figure out WHO to date >.>; Or if I even want to date somebody.

I have a friend I’ve known for about 6 years by now in upstate New York

I have a good friend coming out of college in a year in the Mid-West looking to move anywhere

I have a good friend I’ve hit off with well but only got to hang out with for short amounts of time at cons that’s in Louisiana with a steady job and a place of his own

I have somebody I’d like to atleast meet out in California that’s fairly compatible or so it seems

I have a friend I may look into just rooming with that’s mated that’s in Florida

I also have family I could go back with in Philly cause there’s family there, but meh, but it also may mean better opportunity with job stuff

So yeah I wanna figure out which way to pursue.

Update: So after thinking about it, I have to think more about how to get rid of this debt and who I want to be with. So… win the lottery and flip some coins, got it. *snickers*

In the past couple of days my co-worker had commented on how much less spam it appears he’s been getting since the ‘07 new year. So after a quick check I found out he’s not alone. SoftScan claims that spam levels suddenly dropped 30 per cent last week.

Possible reasons sited are a “broken botnet”, as well as the earthquakes in Asia, PCs being replaced with new ones during Christmas or simply being turned off and later breaking. They do however make note that many of these reasons would attribute for such a large dip in spam. They also note that the amount of spam is still alarmingly high, being in the high 80 percentile of all e-mail.

I do think they’re underplaying the PCs being replaced, but I would agree that not all of them were caused by this. Probably several factors including a computer-literate family member visiting a non-computer literate member of the family with a broken computer. Also have to factor in the possibility of getting a second computer and the computer being behind a firewall, where the botnet program only listens on a port and does not “phone home” on its own.

I guess we’ll need to see what happens in the upcoming weeks and months to really determine how much was affected by what factors. But let’s hope it drops even more!

This (and SQL injection and the like) is why you check your data before you do something with it.
http://thedailywtf.com/forums/thread/78846.aspx

For the less computer savvy, let’s put it this way: _SESSION contains information about that user’s session (such as the name they’re logged in with or an ID to keep track of them with a shopping cart for example). /var/www is a common path for webpages on a *NIX system (THIS is problem one right here perhaps: Not using the temporary path /tmp instead of /var/www).

Say the user’s session has the “Tempfile” value in the session set to “tempfile1234″. Ok good, then when it’s done with it (say by clicking a logout button), it would delete tempfile1234. But generally sessiosn timeout. After say… 1 hour as an example. Then say for instance the user clicks the logout button after this 1 hour time out period occurrs. What happens? There’s no more session data! So the “Tempfile” value is blank. So this line NOW evaulates to: “rm -rf /var/www/”, which when executed deletes the entire website folder! All because they didn’t check if the session was even still valid, let alone check what the value in there was. UGH!

FYI, we’ve found similar problems at work. Such as a SQL UPDATE command without a WHERE clause, thus updating EVERY SINGLE ENTRY in the table. Not fun.

Well I realized that I could go up to 800×600 on my Tandy VGM-340 monitor right away. But I swore that this thing went up to 1024×768. So I did investigating. And it seems that it only does it on very low, eye burning refresh rates. So I turned off “Hide modes that this monitor cannot display” under the Screen Refresh Rate in the monitor’s settings. This let me select 43Hz (interlaced) and TADA! 1024×768 actually works! Now I don’t feel like everything’s super cramped anymore.

I currently don’t have a decent sized monitor, since the one in Gainesville was too big to ship. So I’m on my old .34 dot pitch monitor on 640×480. So fun. But it’s better than nothing.

Report for AC maybe coming later.
