  • WP Cornify

So I randomly decided it’d be funny if I do what espn.com did and put in Paul Irish’s Cornify easter egg plugin with jQuery on my site. I didn’t want to do it as a hack however, and figured I’d poke a tiny bit at making a plugin in WordPress. Turns out there was nothing really special to do for my plugin atleast. It just adds in a script to the page.

While doing this, I figured since this was not available elsewhere (to my knowledge) I may as well release it. So here it is. Version 0.1.0 of the “WP Cornify” script. Very simple to install. So simple a unicorn could do it! Drop it into the wp-content/plugins directory, then extract and enable it.

The easter egg is very simple. It’s the “Konami code”. For those of you that are not gamers or ARE gamers but have been in a cave for the past 15 years, the “Konami code” is: Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A.

Entering those key strokes in that order will then activate the Cornify script. From that point on, any additional key stroke will add a Cornify object to the page, which include various rainbows and unicorns all in an absolutely fabulous manner. It will also  potentially change the beginning of a sentence of some text on the site as well as its font.

I’m going to try and put this on the wp.org Plugin site, as well as try to add other “features” in the future, that being some of the other sites as the HotRate review site, and perhaps a user definable keystroke sequence. But for now this is all I wanted it to do and it does its job, and it’s here for anybody that wants it. Enjoy!
