I CAN HAS CHANGE NOW PLZ?

July 17th, 2007

Random venting/ranting or something. I don’t feel exactly depressed or angsty or anything like that mind you ;)

I know I need a change in my life. I KNOW I’m not going to be where I am right now too much longer. I just want to wake up tomorrow and either magically end up in the job and place I should be at next, potentially with a special someone of my choosing, OR wake up tomorrow and find out what that direction is and start packing for it without worrying and be there by the end of the month. Or after MFM, lol.

I still have debts to worry about, I need either more work or a better paying job (probably better paying job considering the amount they pay is squat for my line of work really). But I have various places and folks I want to be with. And I don’t know who to be with. It’s not that I have a problem finding somebody to date, it’s more me trying to figure out WHO to date >.>; Or if I even want to date somebody.

  • I have a friend I’ve known for about 6 years by now in upstate New York
  • I have a good friend coming out of college in a year in the Mid-West looking to move anywhere
  • I have a good friend I’ve hit off with well but only got to hang out with for short amounts of time at cons that’s in Louisiana with a steady job and a place of his own
  • I have somebody I’d like to atleast meet out in California that’s fairly compatible or so it seems
  • I have a friend I may look into just rooming with that’s mated that’s in Florida
  • I also have family I could go back with in Philly cause there’s family there, but meh, but it also may mean better opportunity with job stuff

So yeah I wanna figure out which way to pursue.

Update: So after thinking about it, I have to think more about how to get rid of this debt and who I want to be with. So… win the lottery and flip some coins, got it. *snickers*

I think this calls for a…

I just had to deal with not one, not two, but three folks that held me up from getting a shipment for the past 10 days or so:

  • The original shipper, for putting my address in all lowercase with a Sans-Serif font when my “Lot Number” was L3. People, never ever ever EVER EVER use sans-serif when trying to write out codes of sorts that can have conflicting alphanumeric symbols that can cause such confusion!
  • The delivery guy for not taking into account context. He could have noticed that it was all lowercase and seen that “i” didn’t look like “l”
  • The person who was at lot I3 for not realizing that they still had the package and that they didn’t return the package!

Fortunately the lady that was over at I3 knew that they still had it and came over about 1 hour ago and hand delivered the package.

Why so many forget Alaska is the largest state

May 15th, 2007

Ok so this is something… unusual for me to talk about, but something I figured I’d randomly throw up here because I’ve had it come to my mind a few times.

Alaska. It makes X-Box look small. Heck it makes our 48 continental states look small. But unfortunately not enough people in the US realize this. And I have a few reasons why I believe this is forgotten.

First, let us remember how the US is often pictured in general. 48 states. Alaska and Hawaii are often simply not pictured. So very often, it’s not even in somebody’s mind. When it’s not seen enough during childhood, it becomes harder to reinforce.

Secondly, and even more importantly: How are Alaska and Hawaii represented when pictured on a map of just the US? Very often: In a corner showing “oh we have these two states here as well but they’re elsewhere”. Hawaii is represented not too terribly different than its actual size. But how about Alaska? Well, it’s nowhere near as big as it should be. It’s probably approximately 1/4 to 1/2 of its actual size in general. If Alaska was properly represented and put in the upper middle of the US, the main land would cover most or all of North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska and Iowa, the back part of the state covering half of half of Wisconsin, Illinois and Missouri. The back tail would go through Kentucky, Tenessee and stop in Northern Georgia, and the front tail of islands would extend to the California coast!

Also if you actually positioned it right, if the Western most portion of the state was in San Francisco, California, the Eastern most portion of the state would be in Jacksonville, Florida!
So what ends up happening as a child is you don’t get a decent visualization of how big it is compared to the US. So you think it’s smaller than Texas. Another fact that is usually not pointed out is that its Eastern border is shared with the entire Western border of the Yukon Territory and by part of British Columbia!

So I think really that while our children are starting to learn how big Alaska really is, a lot of adults that didn’t look into it just

… Not to mention that Adults that weren’t in school after the 60s may not have even SEEN Alaska in their text books.

Ghostbusters cover on IIDX GOLD video and “lyrics”

March 29th, 2007

Video here.

“Lyrics” (made up partially by me):

When something stinch, in your neighbor’s food, foo you gonna car? (Ghost busters!)
If there’s something wield, and it don’t look goo, foo you gonna car? (Ghost busters!)

I ain’t afraid of no ghosts.
I ain’t afraid of no ghosts.

A little thing, running through your hair, foo you gonna car? (Ghost busters!)
A mythical land. Slip it in your bag, oh foo you gonna car? (Ghost busters)

I ain’t afraid of no ghosts. She likes a car. I ain’t afraid of no ghosts. Yeah yeah yeah yeah!

Foo you gonna car. You have girls now. Freaky custard. You gonna kill (Ghost busters!)

I ain’t afraid of no ghosts. I ain’t afraid of no ghosts.

Spam down by about a 1/3 in the last week

January 9th, 2007

In the past couple of days my co-worker had commented on how much less spam it appears he’s been getting since the ‘07 new year. So after a quick check I found out he’s not alone. SoftScan claims that spam levels suddenly dropped 30 per cent last week.

Possible reasons sited are a “broken botnet”, as well as the earthquakes in Asia, PCs being replaced with new ones during Christmas or simply being turned off and later breaking. They do however make note that many of these reasons would attribute for such a large dip in spam. They also note that the amount of spam is still alarmingly high, being in the high 80 percentile of all e-mail.

I do think they’re underplaying the PCs being replaced, but I would agree that not all of them were caused by this. Probably several factors including a computer-literate family member visiting a non-computer literate member of the family with a broken computer. Also have to factor in the possibility of getting a second computer and the computer being behind a firewall, where the botnet program only listens on a port and does not “phone home” on its own.

I guess we’ll need to see what happens in the upcoming weeks and months to really determine how much was affected by what factors. But let’s hope it drops even more!
